An Automation Policy applies an Automation Profile to the clusters whose labels match the conditions that you define.
Automation is opt-in. Automation is disabled by default and enabled by you. When you enable automation, RealTheory can make configuration changes within the scope and parameters of your automation profiles, including any default values that you have not changed. See Automation Opt-In Requirements Explained.
Prerequisites
- You have the sys_admin or automation_admin role.
- See Automation Opt-In Requirements Explained.
- At least one Automation Profile exists. See Creating an Automation Profile.
Procedure
-
Navigate to Settings > Automation > Workloads > Automation Policies.
-
Click Add automation policy.
-
In Name, type a unique name for the policy.
-
(Optional) In Description, type a description that helps users identify the purpose of the policy.
-
In Owner, note that you are the owner of the policy.
Note: The owner's cluster access limits which clusters the policy can affect. See Automation Owners Explained.
-
In Conditions, type a label selector for the clusters that the policy applies to, for example
team=payments.Note: To learn how to write equality-based and set-based label selectors, see How To Use Label Selectors to Identify Resources.
-
(Optional) Click Evaluate to preview the clusters whose labels match the conditions.
Note: The preview does not consider the owner's cluster access, so the preview might list clusters that the policy cannot affect.
-
Click NEXT.
-
Select the profile to associate with this policy, and then click SAVE.
-
(Optional) To change where the new policy falls in the order, drag the policy up or down the list.
Note: RealTheory evaluates policies in order, and the first policy that matches a cluster determines the profile for that cluster.
Important: After you save the policy, automation can take a few minutes to start changing the workloads that the profile includes in the clusters that the policy matches. Policy order, cluster readiness, and owner access can narrow which workloads change. See Scope and Parameters.
